The Swedish Institute’s scholarships are awarded based on academic merit as well as leadership qualities and the possibility to contribute to sustainable global development. The aim is to find and strengthen the leaders of the future who will work for a democratic, fair and sustainable society in their home countries and regions after their studies in Sweden.
Ahead of the academic year 2021/2022, more than 9298 applications were received. Russia, Nigeria and Azerbajdzjan are among the countries with most granted scholarships. The scholarship recipients will study at 28 higher education institutions in Sweden, with social science and technology among the most popular topics.
– We are delighted that the interest in the SI Scholarships for Global Professionals scholarship programme has not diminished despite the pandemic. International collaborations and contacts will continue to be important for Sweden, and the overseas students who come here establish lifelong relationships with Sweden during their studies. The studies in Sweden give these talents increased competence and experience to be able to contribute to the work with Agenda 2030, says Madeleine Sjöstedt, Director General of the Swedish Institute.
The Swedish Institute announces and offers a scholarships programme for students at master’s level. The support for the scholarships comprises 169 900 000 SEK for the coming academic year.
The Swedish Institute’s task is also to market Sweden as a study destination, e.g. with the platform Study In Sweden and provide support to foreign universities that offer Swedish language courses around the world, as well as to create and support alumni networks.
