Walks of life: with and about the LGBTQI community in Myanmar

In 2016, SI and Unstraight Museum, together with Colors Rainbow and Kings’n Queens in Myanmar, initiated a project that resulted in the Walk of Life exhibition. The aim has been to strengthen the LGBTQI groups in the country and provide an alternative image of their lives and challenges, in order to contribute to increased understanding and tolerance.

The exhibition, which was opened in Yangon in December 2016, is based on interviews with HBTQI individuals from different regions of Myanmar. The interviews were documented on video and audio tapes and together with photos and objects, the exhibition has toured around the country. In connection with the tour, new stories have also been collected and activities have been organized by local LGBTQI groups.

After 3 years and exhibitions in 12 cities, the project was completed in late June with an exhibition in Yangoon. In the final exhibition, 170 stories were presented from as many individuals gathered during the years 2016-2019.
