New project funding programme to be launched shortly

In March, the Swedish Institute (SI) will launch a new project funding programme focusing on the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe.

Ahead of the introduction of the new governance framework – Sweden’s recently adopted Strategy for Reform Cooperation with Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans and Turkey – SI has reviewed its project funding programmes. The conclusion was that the various programmes targeting Eastern Europe and the Baltic Sea region, should be consolidated into a single programme.

Two geographic strands

The new programme will comprise two geographic strands: one primarily targeting the Eastern Partnership countries, and one focusing on the Baltic Sea region. It will replace the previous project funding programmes – the SI Baltic Sea Neighbourhood Programme (BSNP) and the SI Creative Partnerships Programme (CPP) for the Eastern Partnership – as well as the capacity-building and leadership programmes SI Academy for Young Professionals (SAYP) and LeaderLab.

SI’s project funding in 2026

Once the new programme has been launched, SI’s project funding will consist of two main programmes: the new programme, and one for Ukraine (SI Ukraine Cooperation Programme), which will remain in its current form.

More information shortly

The new programme is currently under development. Further details – including information about the first call for applications, opening in March – will be shared as soon as possible.
