Mind the Gap is a creative programme led by the National Museums of World Culture (Sweden) to facilitate inclusion, equality, intercultural dialogue and active citizenship through digital storytelling and performance arts. We investigate how our daily life gaps can bring us closer to each other. We create a safe dialogue space for ordinary people from different cultural and social backgrounds to reflect on gaps in our daily life and help individuals become more active citizens.
In November 2019, we organised a creative residency at the Lebanese National Theatre in Tyre, southern Lebanon. We gathered a group of young artists from Egypt and Lebanon who shared stories about their own experience of gender gap and gender inequality. We concluded the residency with filming a play, THE MISFITS, based on their stories.
In February 2020, we held our first creative residency in Siwa Oasis, Egypt, in collaboration with Elmadina for Performing and Digital Arts. This brought together 10 participants from the creative industry who shared their stories and personal experiences of gender inequality. We had storytelling workshops, creative writing, theatre and drama therapy exercises. The residency concluded with a public show KOL DA KAN LEIH (Why did it all happen?) in Alexandria.
