The GreenTeam project is about green technologies and fuels for shipping in the Baltic Sea region. The purpose is to prepare for the launching of a so-called roadmap which was presented in 2014.
The Baltic Sea is one of the busiest areas in the world. It is necessary for the shipping industry to shift from traditional to alternative fuels, and new vessels and infrastructure. To make this shift, several sectors and countries must cooperate. In 2014, the need for a public-private partnership for sustainable shipping was articulated by the Finnish Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States and the Helsinki Commission in a document titled “Roadmap for Green Technology and Alternative Fuels for Shipping”. Yet, no such partnership has been established.
The GreenTeam project will organize a conference to follow up the intention of 2014. This conference will be held in the context of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States 2017-2018. The goal is to create a network of public and private stakeholders. The conference will serve as a kick-off for a continuous engagement to implement the intentions to adopt green technologies and fuels in the shipping industry.
