“You will never be the same after your time in Sweden. Just a better, improved version of yourself.”

Gerges Mousa from Egypt studied for a master’s degree in bio-entrepreneurship at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. This is his story.
Swedish Institute scholarship holder Gerges Mousa

I was working as a senior brand manager for an international pharma/MedTech company in Egypt when I applied for the scholarship. I’d had this dream since I was in college that I wanted to pursue a master’s degree in Europe, although I had no clue when or how I’d do it.

In the course of my career, I’ve discovered that I have a passion for business and marketing, and I wanted to become more competitive. I chose Sweden because I wanted to study in Europe and in English. Moreover, Sweden has one of the best universities in the world. When I looked into scholarships there, I was so happy to find all the information I needed on studyinsweden.se.

To get the scholarship, you have to show your life experience as a whole. The master’s degree I applied for was relevant to my previous studies and my professional experience. I also think that you greatly increase your chances of success by completing the application form properly. For those who are considering applying I’d say: Apply and believe that you have a real chance of being accepted. Choose the right programme for you, do your homework, and invest plenty of time in your application. Believe in yourself.

The most valuable aspect of this scholarship has been the exposure to different cultures, the world’s best minds, best practices, and sustainable solutions. Then there’s the SI network itself and the chance to interact with professional global leaders from all around the world. The Network for Future Global Leaders (NFGL) is a priceless opportunity to see the world through a brilliantly diverse network of cultures and professional connections.

This scholarship has helped to broaden my mind and horizons, which in turn has made me more open to different ideas and opinions, and I think this is what a leader really needs.

In the future, I see myself as a leader in the life sciences industry. Someone who can influence the development of, and access to, healthcare services – starting with my home country. I hope to one day run my own company.

I would highly recommend applying for the SI scholarship. It’s the chance of a lifetime to see another part of the world. A golden opportunity to learn and interact with others. You will never be the same after your time in Sweden. Just a better, improved version of yourself.
