The SLVLR is a project about the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Baltic Sea region and in the Eastern Partnership countries.
SLVLR argues that the UN 2030 Agenda offers an important opportunity for a more sustainable Europe. Yet, the implementation remains a challenge. The SLVLR project notes that only a few cities and regions in the Baltic Sea region have so far conducted local reviews to track and follow the progress of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. For this purpose, SLVLR suggests that the Voluntary Local Review tool is used. This tool allows local and regional governments to work strategically towards the Sustainable Development Goals, the 2030 Agenda and other sustainability goals. Both the UN and the EU have begun to develop toolkits to be used locally. However, SLVLR argues that this is not enough to bolster the interest among local and regional government.
Against this background, the project wants to serve as a platform (Sustainability Lab) for stakeholders in the Baltic Sea region and in the Eastern Partnership countries. One goal is to get local stakeholders to use the Voluntary Local Review tool, to be able to deliver concrete actions towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The project activities include a mapping of stakeholders, in the Baltic Sea region and in the Eastern Partnership countries, the design of surveys and the consultation process. Another activity will be a workshop during which the Sustainability Lab will be designed.
