How accessible is sweden.se?

We are aware that some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible. See the sections on non-accessible content below for more information. We are working to fix these shortcomings in future updates to the website.

How we tested this website

We perform continuous internal and external testing of si.se. The last assessment was made on November 19, 2025, after which this report was updated on December 8, 2025. Based on this assessment, deficiencies will be addressed, after which this report will be updated.

Technical information about the accessibility of this website

This website is mainly compliant with the Swedish accessibility regulations and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. Non-compliant content is listed below.

General issues

  • Some pages use the same link text to link to different pages.
  • Some buttons are not correctly semantically marked up and therefore cannot be activated with the spacebar.
  • The focus on the search page moves to the beginning of the page after searching, instead of remaining at the search button.
  • Some link elements do have too small a click area.
  • Focus marking is not always clear on the start page carousel.
  • Some links do not have sufficient contrast on hover.
  • The top menu can be perceived as having an unlogical focus order.

Issues for those with impaired vision

  • There are headings with incorrect heading structure.
  • Some form components (fields and buttons) lack labels/guide texts and/or role descriptions.
  • On some pages there are images that are decorative, but have been implemented in a way that allows screen readers to read them out.
  • There are films in our Resource Bank for Swedish teachers that lack subtitles and audio description. These films are recordings of various lectures and webinars that we or universities have arranged. Our Resource Bank also contains PDF files that are not accessible. The page is password protected and intended for a very specific target group. The target group is Swedish-speaking teachers abroad who, in their job description, must be able to understand spoken Swedish.
  • There are instructional films and documents in the Sweden Alumni Resource Hub that are not accessible. The page is password protected and intended for a very specific target group. The target group is board members of certified alumni networks.
  • Some links on the start page are read out twice by screen readers.

Other deficiencies

  • Some texts are too small, for example the introduction on event pages.
  • Some external links do not always inform that the user will leave the website.
