Varieties of Democracy’s Academic Freedom Index 2020 listed Turkey in the E category, along with China, Saudi Arabia, and South Sudan. Turkey’s freedom of academic and cultural expression, research and teaching, academic exchange and dissemination, institutional autonomy, and campus integrity have been sharply declining since 2015. Turkey Beyond Borders 2.0 aims to continue providing a free, bi-lingual, and virtual platform for scholars from Turkey to continue sharing their knowledge and research findings with students and the community at large via video seminars that cover Turkey’s challenging topics including democracy, conflict, identity, social movements, and foreign policy.
