AMBER is about the internationalisation of research collaborations in the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Partnership countries. It will focus on the prerequisites for better management of international research projects.
During the last decade, a number of projects have been aiming to improve the process of internationalisation at universities in post-Soviet countries. Yet, AMBER notes that there are still gaps that hinder long-term results. The challenges include insufficient knowledge among university staff responsible for internationalisation activities, and a low number of experienced and motivated researchers willing to initiate international research collaborations. Against this background, the project wants to work with university decision-makers to increase the knowledge on the research internationalisation process. It wants decision-makers and administrative staff to be able to better support initiatives from researchers. Furthermore, it stresses that previous projects were not supported by motivational mechanisms. Therefore, it will be arranging group-trainings for researchers to be able to independently run international research projects in the future. In addition, AMBER stresses the need to raise the awareness on the topic of internationalisation of research collaborations, both inside and outside the universities.
