QueerTM: Trauma & Migration – Regional cooperation of queer community organisations for better social, psychological, and legal services

The aim of the project is to improve responses to critical issues related to queer migration in the Baltic Sea and Caucasus, including trauma from queerphobic abuse, and precarious legal setups in the countries of origin.

Lesbian, gay, bi, queer, trans, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI) individuals still face massive struggles worldwide in their daily life including physical violence, harassment, discrimination at work, abuse of power from state authorities, and rejection through family members and peers. Circumstances which cause personal trauma and (the wish for) (inter)national migration.

An important part of the project will be to examine similarities and differences between the countries. Stakeholders will identify effective strategies and policies that could be adapted or replicated in different contexts. One of the expected results of the project is a published analysis of measures taken to ensure security of queer migrants and/or internally displaced people in the involved regions, with the specific focus on providing legal assistance and addressing their vulnerable situation due to decreased mental health. Â
