EPERE: Enhancing the Participation of and Ensuring the Right to Education for Children with Intellectual Disability: Developing Capacities and Opportunities

The project aims to enhance the inclusion of children with intellectual disabilities, and provide training for teachers, other professionals, and parents.

The situation for children with intellectual disabilities in Ukraine is challenging due to the post-Soviet transformation, and the Russian aggression. Systems for the educational support and social assistance are undergoing a long process of transformation. This transformation is not yet completed, and further research is needed to assess today’s status and future needs. Particularly, there is a lack of staff, and staff competencies need to be developed further.

As part of the project, training modules will be developed, implemented and evaluated in three regions of Ukraine. They will be empirically based on the perspectives of the stakeholders involved and based on this work, guidelines for the inclusion of children with intellectual disabilities will be formulated.
