The project aims to transform industrial hemp waste into biochar, a versatile material with applications in composites and textiles.
One of the key challenges facing the Baltic Sea region is the effective utilisation of industrial hemp waste, a by-product of the rapidly growing hemp industry. Currently, large quantities of hemp stalks and fibres are underutilized, leading to missed economic opportunities and potential environmental harm.
By converting hemp waste into valuable resources, the project will address both waste reduction and carbon sequestration, promoting climate resilience. Activities include research and development. Once the biochar-based composites are developed, they will undergo testing and validation to ensure they meet industry standards.
