Designing Participatory Spaces: Innovation in Placemaking and Capacity Building

The project aims to equip cultural and creative professionals in Sweden and Türkiye with participatory design tools to promote inclusive, democratic, and sustainable public spaces.

Public spaces in both countries are often designed without local engagement, leading to exclusion and disconnection. Cultural actors lack structured methods to involve communities in shaping their environments.

Through workshops, site visits, and collaborative activities in Malmö and Ankara, participants will develop and test a participatory placemaking model. Methods such as DreamIt, WalkIt, and OrderIt will be used to co-create a prototype in Malmö, later adapted in Türkiye. This cross-cultural collaboration will strengthen professional networks, foster democratic engagement, and empower creative professionals to drive inclusive urban transformation.
