Key challenges: Improving journalist safety, labour rights and resilience in the Western Balkans

The project aims to strengthen media freedom and improve journalists’ working conditions in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Kosovo. It focuses on journalist safety, digital threats, labour rights, and mental well-being, by building regional capacity and advocating for systemic reforms.

The project addresses weak protections and growing risks by training local trainers, supporting national training initiatives, and providing access to tools for safety, well-being, and digital security. A digital repository will collect and share best practices across the region.

Key activities include a regional training program, national training sessions, cross-border collaboration, and advocacy events. The project also engages key stakeholders such as police and prosecutors in Kosovo and Serbia to improve legal responses to threats. By enhancing local networks and skills, the project contributes to a more resilient and secure media environment.
