Today the alumni network consists of over 20.000 SI alumni globally and 50 certified local alumni networks all over the world. The aim of the network is to function as a platform where alumni can stay in contact with each other and Sweden, maintain and grow their network to other alumni, and work together for a sustainable development.
In the past year, SI has worked to develop the offers provided to the alumni network and at the same time improve its synergies and collaboration with Swedish foreign missions. The initiative of the Alumni Leaders Meeting is an important step in realising these efforts.
During the meeting, the representatives had the opportunity to share their experiences, know-how and find synergies for future collaborations. One of the goals of the meeting was to develop tools that are essential for streamlining and enhancing the work with alumni relations for all three parts: foreign missions, alumni, and SI. Swedish Foreign Mission representative from Kenya, Mutheu Mbondo, emphasizes on the importance of collaborating with alumni in reaching the embassy’s goals in trade promotion and export promotion:
“The alumni are really part of how we achieve our three-year goal. They help us open doors and they connect us with important stakeholders in Kenya. They are invaluable and a key part of our work. We cannot do what we do without the support of our alumni. I see the value that the alumni give us, and I really hope we are able to give back the same value to our alumni.”
