Cinema: Amateurs by Gabriela Pichler

To coincide with the exhibition National Therapy by Peter Johansson, the Institut Suédois In paris is organising a film evening focusing on the way a town builds its image and who has the right to participate. The film will be followed by a discussion with the director.
A meeting around a tale: 8 people are watching a computer screen while smiling

Welcome to Lafors – a sleepy Swedish provincial town that desperately needs a boost. When a German chain reveals its plans to open a store in town (bringing with it 500 jobs), hope is reborn. A video ad has to be made to showcase the town’s attractions. But how should this tired little town be depicted? Should a wooden hut be painted red so that it looks pretty and typically Swedish? Should residents of non-Swedish heritage be left out of the film? Who will decide? And who will finance the video?
Aida and Dana, two local teens armed with mobile phones, have some ideas that are very different from those of the official video-maker, who has been brought in specially from Stockholm.
With Amateurs, Gabriela Pichler investigates the power of images and narratives in a globalised society. She will take part in a discussion after the film.

Admission free, prior reservation not required (while seats last).
Doors open at 18.45.
