NFGL Local Network event: Women’s rights in Iran – Untold Stories of Bravery

Each year, more than 3,700 organizations from around the world join forces in the campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence. SI NFGL Lund, the network of Swedish Institute scholarship holders in Lund, is joining the campaign this year by hosting an event on the political and religious oppression of women in Iran.

The event would have two parts. First, we will watch “Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi”, an outstanding animated movie based on the autobiography of an Iranian woman after the 1979 revolution. This critical period for millions of Iranians, especially women, is approached in a personal and even humorous way in this award-winning film.

After a fika break, we will introduce you to the ongoing campaigns for women’s rights #White_Wednesdays and #Our_camera_our_weapon, and have a moderated discussion on how we, the international community, relate to these women. In the spirit of the 16 Days of Activism, all those who wish will be able to take a picture or a video with their encouragements, which we will then collate and send to Iranian women.
