Viable Cities is a strategic innovation program working towards the mission of Climate Neutral Cities 2030 with a good life for all within the boundaries of the planet. In short, this means fixing the climate crisis while ensuring that people can live a good life.
The mission-driven work of Viable Cities took off in 2018, initially with nine Swedish municipalities and currently with 23 municipalities, all with very high ambitions in the climate and sustainability transition.
Meet Lena Lagestam, one of the initiators of Viable Cities Borlänge. Lena will share how the city works to create forms of collaboration and methods to enable the transformative changes. The initiative revolves around an innovation team, a broad collaboration platform and citizen engagement, with a portfolio of initiatives for climate neutrality. Together, this will strengthen the ability of Borlänge, a relatively small town with heavy industry in a predominantly rural county, to become a pioneer nationally and in Europe.
Lena Lagestam is the former chairman of the board of Borlänge Energi, which is one of Sweden’s largest municipal energy companies. She has worked in the energy industry since the 90s and worked in several projects with sustainability as a theme. Lena is one of the initiators of Viable Cities Borlänge. She is also a member of the municipal council in Borlänge.
