This activity is organised by Sweden Alumni Network Uganda and in open to all.
The Swedish Institute Alumni in the Health sector through the Network are planning a one day event to voluntarily share their knowledge and experiences learnt from Sweden with the Kampala slum community by giving community members free check-ups, giving treatment, counselling sessions among others. This event is scheduled to take place on 28th/September/2022.
Uganda still grapples with poor health systems due to limited funding to the health sector and this has greatly declined with the COVID-19 pandemic where the health facilities were overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients. The socio-economic status of the population declined due to the pandemic hence limited access to their health needs and other services. Save the Street Children Uganda (SASCU) in Kamokya-Kampala serves a population of over 800,000 people; however, these people face challenges of accessing certain services such as dental, eyes, HIV counselling due to financial constraints. Therefore, the Alumni health camp will provide an opportunity to the community to access free Dental services, Opticians, Gynecologists, Malaria screenings, Counsellors, Pediatricians, General Doctors, Nutritionists, free HIV screening and Health education which will improve the health of the community. There will also be Blood Donations through the Kampala Red-Cross.
The Swedish Alumni in Uganda are aiming to improve access to the health care of the community through a health camp by offering pre-paid spot health services. SASCU school facility will provide a platform for the community. The Swedish institute alumni will offer support and engage the community in dialogues. The target audiences are; Pregnant mothers, Elderly, children and the general community at large.
