The project aims to counter the growing use of Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs) in Armenia by documenting cases, raising awareness, and promoting legal reform to protect civil society actors and press freedom.
Environmental defenders, journalists, and activists increasingly face legal harassment from powerful corporations and public officials, undermining their ability to advocate for human rights and environmental protection. These lawsuits silence critical voices and weaken democratic engagement by deterring public participation.
The project will document SLAPP cases, expand a legal database, and produce a policy report with recommendations. Public awareness efforts, including interviews and videos, will amplify the issue nationally. The initiative also includes international advocacy to link Armenian actors with regional networks. By strengthening civil society and promoting accountability, the project defends fundamental rights and reinforces democratic resilience.
