BALOWIL; Baltic Sea Offshore Wind collaborative-Learning

BALOWIL addresses renewable energy and offshore wind deployment in the Baltic Sea region.

The Baltic Sea region is facing a rapid expansion of offshore wind deployments. The BALOWIL project notes that the EU plans to increase the capacity of offshore wind 25 times, and that the Baltic Sea region could have 14GW of offshore wind by 2030. The region covers multiple countries and a myriad of different stakeholders. The BALOWIL project therefore suggests that the growing deployment is accompanied by increased potential for conflicts. In view of this, more dialogue is needed.

The goal of BALOWIL is to create an innovate pilot on co-existence solutions for offshore wind deployments in the Baltic Sea region. In particular, the project wants to promote the role of non-governmental organizations in transnational dialogues. The activities include the creation of a network of six organizations, a kick-off meeting, and workshops with focus on open dialogues. The results will be shared with other non-governmental organizations as well as research organizations.
