The BIB project concerns the digital infrastructure of libraries, archives, research and museums in the Baltic Sea region.
The Baltic Sea region shares a cultural and historic heritage that is important to preserve. As the world becomes more digitalized, material in libraries and public archives need to be transferred into digital archives. However, countries in the Baltic Sea region work differently with digital archives. Different institutions also have differing knowledge and capacity to work digitally. The BIB project therefore wants to create a common plan on how to transfer information digitally across the Baltic Sea region.
The project plans to expand and work with already established networks in the Baltic Sea region. Through meetings, the partners will create a plan on how to digitalize material such as maps, news articles and other documents from the region. The long-term aim is to make the information available in a common database that students and researchers can use.
