BIHES; Baltic Innovative Hybrid Energy System

The project aims to create a new partnership platform for countries in the Baltic Sea region which will encourage cooperation to enable the development of an affordable, available, and sustainable supply of energy. The focus will be on hybrid energy systems that encompass both electricity as well as heat and cooling production and use.

The current energy crisis has exposed the vulnerability of energy systems. Disruptions in one
type of fuel source can have catastrophic results on the entire market due to several reasons and
energy poverty is on the rise in Europe. The results of high prices are not only due to the
disruption from current supply (for example Russian gas), but also due to how the energy market is structured.

The project will develop a handbook for decision makers and energy companies who want to develop, implement, and analyse the potential for hybrid energy systems within their region. It will offer training based on three modules focusing on the social, economic, and technical aspects of innovative hybrid energy systems. It will also lead to the establishment of an online cooperation platform containing the handbook, the training modules as well as relevant material on the topic and a user forum to induce future cooperation within the Baltic Sea region.
