BUILDS-UP: Building Universal and Inclusive Local Design – a Swedish-Ukrainian Partnership

The aim of the project is to the enhance capacity of Ukrainian municipalities to include people with disabilities in policy development, city planning and reconstruction plans.

The project addresses both a pressing need, and Ukraine’s legal commitments. It is estimated that approximately 3 million people in Ukraine have a disability, and the figure is expected to increase. The legal challenge lies in Ukraine’s need to fully implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.

Municipal officials will gain tools and an understanding of how to empower persons with disabilities. Participants will become part of a Ukrainian and Swedish network of knowledge. Activities include two workshops and a capacity-building assignment.
