ClosingGapsPharmaRes; Closing gaps: Techniques and solutions for reducing pharmaceutical residuals in the Baltic Sea region

The ClosingGaps project is about pharmaceutical residuals in the healthcare sector in the Baltic Sea region. It will focus on a roadmap for using different techniques and solutions to reduce the environmental impact of pharmaceutical residuals.

The project emphasizes that countries in the Baltic Sea region are well aware of the fact that pharmaceutical residuals are causing environmental damage. There are various policies in place for managing waste and protecting the Baltic Sea, nationally and regionally. However, ClosingGaps suggests that countries and sectors do not always share the same view on policies, techniques and models for reducing pharmaceutical residuals in the healthcare sector. The project argues that this might hinder an efficient implementation of various technical solutions. In other words, there is an opportunity to accelerate the dissemination of these techniques by closing the gaps between the countries and sectors in the Baltic Sea region. The ClosingGaps project wants to create a roadmap for this purpose. Stakeholders will collaborate to exchange experiences, and share and compare techniques and conditions for reducing pharmaceutical residuals in the healthcare sector. It will involve public sector as well as academy and business representatives.

The activities include mapping solutions and best practices, analysis of legislative obstacles and political conditions, interviews with stakeholders, and creating and presenting the roadmap.
