The aim of this project is to contribute to the empowerment of libraries for rebuilding Ukraine. Libraries are essential for building and sustaining a democratic society, promoting lifelong learning, preserving cultural heritage, fostering community engagement, bridging the digital divide, and upholding democratic values.
The ongoing war in Ukraine has had a major impact on memory institutions and all sorts of libraries. According to the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy (2023), 40 percent of the objects of cultural significance that had been affected since the beginning of the war, were libraries (598 out of 1582).
The project aims to empower libraries and library associations as they can play a critical role in war torn and the post war rebuilding of Ukraine. The project activities include two round tables online with representatives from the partner countries. A needs assessment will be carried out as well as study visits.
