Enhancing Women and Female Youth Awareness and Political Participation in South Western Uganda

The under-representation of women in political leadership in Uganda is a major concern and stems from institutional, structural, cultural and attitudinal barriers that discourage women from participating in public life. This project addresses these issues by increasing awareness and political participation of women and female youth in four districts. Activities include development of a gender responsive civic education manual, information materials, education sessions, awareness-raising through community gatherings and media channels. The goal is to increase understanding of gender equality and the importance of women’s participation in decision making and to increase the participation of women and youth in democratic processes.
