The FofT project is about sustainable food systems in the Baltic Sea region. The initial focus will be on the ability to influence new EU legislation.
FofT suggests that food production in the Baltic Sea region is struggling with various sustainability problems. For instance, eutrophication and excessive greenhouse gas emissions due to surplus of nutrients. Less biodiversity is another problem. The blue sector is also facing serious challenges, such as overfishing and high levels of pollutants. Moreover, current diets are causing public health problems. In view of this, the FofT project argues that policies for the food systems in the Baltic Sea region are not workings, and that these food systems themselves are causing some of these problems. It is therefore important to work together to exchange experiences, and to build new political narratives and mindsets for EU food systems. For this purpose, FofT wants to establish an alliance to influence expected EU legislation. The idea is that the alliance then will work together and exchange experiences about sustainable food systems in the region.
The activities include national stakeholder workshops, writing a report, and an international conference. The goal is at least 200 participants
