HAnimSPAC; Happy ANIMals for Sustainable Production And Consumption

HAnimSPAC is about animal welfare in the Baltic Sea region and in the Eastern Partnership countries.

The HAnimSPAC project notes that animal welfare has become increasingly recognized as an important part of farming. Especially in high-income countries like Sweden, consumers as well as governments and academia are now paying much more attention to animal welfare standards than just a decade ago, according to HAnimSPAC. Other countries in the Baltic Sea region and in the Eastern Partnership countries have so far been paying less attention to this topic. For instance, HAnimSPAC points out that Ukraine and Azerbaijan do not have educated specialists in animal welfare. Also, it suggests that there is a lack of information on higher animal welfare standards in the veterinary education, and that farmers lack information and training on animal welfare.

Against this background, HAnimSPAC argues that there is much to gain from transnational cooperation. The goal is that the participants will collaborate on animal welfare across the borders. For example, they will examine the situation in the partner countries, and identify issues that require actions. The activities include interviews, data collection, statistical analysis, meetings, discussions and presentation of results.
