The project aims to introduce organ music as a new field of activities within the Hansa, which currently comprises 194 member cities across 15 countries.
Since the Hanseatic cities were invited to a Hanseatic Day in Zwolle in 1980, with 42 cities in attendance, the Hansa has established active working groups for tourism, sustainability, fair trade, archives, and art. However, there is currently no concept or working group dedicated to music.
Project activities will include inviting composers to participate in a Hansa Organ Book and launching the first Hansa Organ Festival at the Hanseatic Day in Visby in 2025. Other activities will be to set up criteria for future festivals to ensure a high quality. The long-term impact of the project will be a new field of activities in the Hansa together with the already existing ones. Hansa Organ and Hansa Organ Festivals will be added to the working groups.
