Iraq Through the Lenses of Women Photographers

Currently there are hardly any female photo journalists in all of Iraq. According to Framing Photojournalism School, Iraq’s main agency for freelance journalists, there are many areas where there is a need for women photo journalists.

Our project aims at building a program for training, coaching and publishing the work of female Iraqi photographers and photojournalists. Women in Iraq have historically been invisible and they are still denied opportunities to develop professionally. At the same time there is a demand for female photo journalists. Women in Iraq are often more comfortable to be photographed by other women. This project will bring together female photographers, empower them and give them their rightful opportunity to occupy the space of photo journalism.
