Young girls in Mathare slum, Kenya, face health challenges during their transition to adulthood. This includes limited access to sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) information and services. The consequences of this are sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancies. Poor SRHR outcomes can impact young women, as they face stigma from the community, and diminished educational and employment opportunities impacting their mental health, self-worth and self-esteem. The project will focus on providing SRHR information to girls and boys through workshops and advocacy through events and digital creative spaces. Youth facilitators, trained in a leadership program, will facilitate workshops (in separate groups for girls and boys) in SRHR and empowerment through the Backa Sex-Ed methodology. After completion of the training, the participants will make their voices heard through digital storytelling, community events, and panel discussions targeting the marginalized community and its leaders.
