PEAS is about local food systems in the Baltic Sea region. The project will focus on organisation, financing and production in small scale ecological food chains.
According to PEAS, the agricultural sector in the Baltic Sea region is facing severe challenges, due to climate change, extreme weather and galloping energy prices. In addition, the project suggests that profits are low and that the number of producers is decreasing. It argues that it is necessary to improve people’s possibilities to produce and distribute food to local markets. In short, the supply chains must be strengthened.
PEAS wants to support cooperative ways of organising local food systems, and suggests that new policies allowing smaller producers to sell their products are needed. Therefore, the project wants to establish a partnership which will find new ways to organise, finance and produce food through small scale ecological food chains. It argues that different experiences will be beneficial for solving common problems. The project will establish channels for sharing knowledge and ideas, and identify and mobilise partners as well as associated partners. The activities include a kick-off meeting, study visits, gathering of good and bad examples and mapping of legal frameworks.
