The PreMiWaFi project is about waste fires and their consequences throughout the Baltic Sea region and in the EU’s Eastern Partnership countries. It will focus on exchange of knowledge and best practices.
PreMiWaFi notes that the incidents of waste fires have increased both in terms of frequency and intensity in the last decade in Europe. This is unfortunate, as waste fires are a big source of emissions of organic pollutants and a cause of premature death. PreMiWaFi also notes that there are no common guidelines, or an integrated approach, to prevent waste fires and their consequences in the Baltic Sea region.
The project wants the partner countries to exchange knowledge across the borders to learn from each other. Moreover, it wants to work out systematic approaches to address the problem of waste fires and to mitigate the consequences. For this purpose, it wants to create an international consortium in the Baltic Sea region, for sharing challenges and best practices. The activities include a number of networking activities and workshops with partners, waste management associations and waste companies.
