The aim of the project is to increase the capacity of Ukraine’s authorities and agribusiness in climate-smart recovery of agriculture on reclaimed and demined land and to support ISO standards’ adaptation.Â
One challenge is that the production of major crops remains well below pre-war levels of 2016-2021. The extensive shelling has resulted in numerous shell craters scattered across vast areas of Ukraine, particularly affecting arable land, Ukraine’s renowned fertile black soils, chernozem. Â
The project aims to empower Ukraine’s agribusinesses and authorities with knowledge on nature-based solutions to effectively manage residual soil contaminants in shell craters, ensuring the safety of crops. Activities include analysis of soil samples and to compare results to soil quality standards.Â
