Samburu rock art – a unique cultural heritage

As part of their traditional culture, the Samburu warriors (morans) in northern Kenya express themselves by images painted in rock shelters. The Samburu ongoing rock art tradition is a unique cultural heritage, but with almost no documentation, protection, and public access. In this project, people in five local communities, together with world-leading experts, will document and safeguard this living cultural heritage, to explore Samburu, male and female identities. Documentation will be used to develop information and a sustainable cultural tourism in northern Kenya. A digital museum will display information on this heritage and its capacity to preserve and transform cultural traditions.
