The aim of the project is to strengthen the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights to promote human rights at the local level. The institution is critical both for the full enjoyment of human rights for everyone in Ukraine and the successful EU accession of the country.
Human rights are a priority in the EU negotiations and to support their promotion at the local level is critical for restoring Ukraine’s social fabric and mitigating the differences between its regions in access to justice and the actual realisation of rights, especially for minorities and other marginalised groups. However, many of the regional offices are under-staffed and the personnel need regular training and education to be more effective.
Project activities include a needs assessment, to expand partnerships, and engagement with local and international stakeholders. The needs assessment workshop will gather all regional representatives of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights to explore their needs in relation to the local promotion of human rights and EU integration. The needs assessment will be published as a report to be shared with relevant stakeholders.
