URBAN LOOP is about farming and agriculture in the Baltic Sea region. The project will focus on methods for food security and urban environment.
URBAN LOOP notes that the Baltic Sea region is projected to be severely affected by climate change, through hydrological changes caused by rising temperatures and changes in precipitation cycles with periods of water scarcity. It also notes that the covid pandemic has revealed the fragility of globalized food chains. These and other challenges have exposed the need for a more resilient and sustainable food system.
URBAN LOOP wants to see circular solutions to save water and nutrients, and prevent nutrients emissions into the environment. Moreover, it wants to integrate food production systems into the cities in order to create a more resilient urban environment. In view of this, the project will focus on Building Integrated Agriculture, a concept which aims to exploit synergies between existing built environments and agriculture. The project argues that it is necessary to involve stakeholders on different levels, and exchange knowledge across the borders. The overall goal of the project is therefore to build partnerships for collaborative learning across the borders in the Baltic Sea region. The activities include technical study visits and workshops, and the creation of a network with stakeholders from various sectors in all participating countries.
