The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals is aimed to support future global leaders who are committed to working towards a democratic, equal, and sustainable society in their home countries and regions. Recipients are selected based on their academic achievements, professional and leadership experiences, and their potential to contribute to sustainable development.
This year, the Swedish Institute received a total of 8167 applications. 5804 of these candidates were admitted to an eligible master’s programmes by 21 March, a requirement to be considered for the SI Scholarship.
The awarded scholarship recipients will be attending 27 different higher education institutions across Sweden and are enrolled in 198 different study programmes. The most popular fields of study are Social Sciences, Engineering and Technology and Medical and Health Sciences. The recipients come from 38 different countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. And the total budget allocated for this year’s scholarship holders amounts to approximately SEK 172 000 000.
Madeleine Sjöstedt, General Director of the Swedish Institute, shares the importance of the scholarship and welcomes this year’s recipients:
– Sweden is a small export-dependent country that relies on trade and cooperation with the rest of the world. Our scholarship program is an important tool to strengthen relations between Sweden and the world. By studying in Sweden, these talents gain additional skills, deeper understanding to promote sustainable development globally and of course an increased knowledge about Sweden. We look forward to building fruitful relationships with the new scholarship recipients.

I’m on the list! What’s next?
If you’re on the list of successful scholarship recipients, first of all congratulations! You will receive an official scholarship offer by e-mail by 26 April. Make sure to accept the scholarship offer by the deadline indicated in your e-mail. The offer is only valid for the master’s programme stated in the offer. Also, please make sure to decline admissions and/or reserve places to other master’s programme at University Admissions according to the instructions in your e-mail.
If you are on the reserve list, you will be informed via e-mail if you are offered a scholarship during May/June 2024. If you don’t receive an e-mail, unfortunately you will not receive a scholarship for this academic year. You are welcome to re-apply during the next application period.
I’m not on the list. What’s next?
If you’re not on the list, you have unfortunately not been offered a scholarship or a reserve place. Applicants who are not offered a scholarship will not be notified individually.
