‘The SI Global Executive Programme helped me put in place a system to drive engagement’

Kelechi Olawoyin, Chief Sustainability Officer at Transport Services Limited, is leading her company’s sustainability transformation. Through the Swedish Institute's Global Executive Programme, she learned the power of collaboration in driving sustainability initiatives.

Transport Services Limited (TSL) is a 23-year-old Nigerian logistics company and a leading provider of tailored logistics and transportation solutions. Specialising in trucking and passenger transport, TSL serves key industries including manufacturing and construction, oil and gas, fast-moving consumer goods, and passenger transportation.

With a fleet of over 850 trucks and strong partnerships with prominent multinationals and strategic original equipment manufacturers, TSL is committed to embedding sustainability throughout its value chain, striving to ensure its operations align with global standards of environmental, governance and social responsibility.

Driving Sustainability at TSL

As Chief Sustainability Officer, Kelechi leads the company’s sustainability strategy, prioritising clean operations, including emissions management and waste reduction, strong governance and thriving ecosystems. Kelechi says that while emissions are not strictly regulated in Nigeria, TSL aims to be an industry leader in sustainability.

‘Several companies in our sector in Nigeria are still in the early stages of prioritising sustainability initiatives, so we want to ensure we are leading the charge and bringing as many organisations as we can along with us,’ she says. ‘We established our sustainability department late in 2023, and we have been very successful with waste management, including spare parts refurbishment and reuse.’

Learnings from the SI Global Executive Programme

One of the benefits of participating in the SI Global Executive Programme, Kelechi says, has been learning how to consolidate TSL’s sustainability work into a comprehensive strategy.

‘We have done a lot of sustainability initiatives, but we haven’t brought them together into a strategy with systems in place to support it. The Global Executive Programme helped me put in place the systems that I need to drive not just changes in the company culture but also engagement.’

Inspired to Dream Bigger

The programme also inspired Kelechi to think more ambitiously about her goals.

‘I wanted to start with a phased approach, thinking that I will do the proof of concept, review it, and then escalate. But by the time I went through the programme, I came back to my project and asked myself, why not dream bigger? You have the opportunity, you have the platform, you have people that can support you.’

The connections that Kelechi made during the programme, including the week in Stockholm, is one of the main reasons she would recommend it.

‘Sometimes when you’re deeply passionate about something, it can feel like you’re navigating the space alone, without much support or like-minded individuals to share the journey. Now if I have a problem, I can pick up the phone and call my fellow participants who have become friends, and we can navigate the journey together. That’s really impactful.’
